What and How Design : A Guide by your Friend.

People must be wondering why my Blog is titled

as "Designer : To be or not to be".

Well, I am studying in a Design college and will be getting a degree for it. However,  I would love to let people know how the world of Design works adding the fact that drawing ≠ design.

What is Design? Is it just designing beautiful clothes, aesthetic interiors and catchy websites?

It is more than that.

Design has been recognised as a creative kitchen counter that can produce tons of unique and exquisite recipes for the world to relish them and satisfy its taste buds of development. Designers are the chefs who mix and match different ingredients such as intellect, design sense, technicalities and general knowledge. And then, the recipe ends with a final garnish of "form follows function and function follows form". It enhances the taste and presentation of the design internally and externally.

Let's talk about these creative chefs.

It has been assumed by public that Designers are the only ones who are good at drawing. That is an absolutely incorrect statement. Drawing is just one of the utensils. It's like a kadhai or a pan. The dish will be made in it, but isn't completely dependant on it. It works like this - if you are not good at drawing, you can stand on your creative ability; if you are good at it, then bravo! You've earned a utensil to make your dish.

In short, if you are considering design as your career but holding back because of your sketching skills, you are wrong. These skills are always there for you to learn and master.

Designers are trained to take in consideration every real life aspect before designing anything. And the main ingredient they use is Empathy. There is no Design without Empathy. Understanding people's needs and requirements is most important for every designer. A Designer has to be emotional and practical at the same time. A user is on top priority while designing anything. They will be the ones who will try out the dish that is created.

Coming back to where we started.

"To be or not to be, that is the question.", quoted by the great playwright Shakespeare in his play Hamlet. The play has no context here, but the statement has. To be or not to be a Designer, the answer lies in what you like. If you see yourself possessing all the qualities that are mentioned above, you are always welcome in the Design field. Embrace your skills and be a chef.
